Bloom’s taxonomy: definition
Bloom’s taxonomy classifies learning objectives by increasing complexity. Its revised version (Anderson and Krathwohl, 2001) has six levels: remember, understand, apply, analyze, evaluate, create.
The six levels
| Level | Typical action verbs |
|---|---|
| Remember | list, name, recognize |
| Understand | explain, summarize, compare |
| Apply | apply, carry out, use |
| Analyze | distinguish, spot, diagnose |
| Evaluate | check, justify, choose |
| Create | design, write, plan |
Example
“Explain why a PDF sent by email is not an e-invoice” targets Understand; “Check that an incoming invoice carries the four new fields” targets Apply.
What it is for in a video
It helps write an objective with an observable verb, and pick the right format: a short video mostly serves the first three levels. Our learning objective generator is built on it.
