How much does a training video cost? In-house, agency or EducPilot
What a training video costs depends mostly on the time your team spends on it. The estimator puts three ways of working side by side, with visible, sourced assumptions you replace with your own.
Default: average hourly labour cost in the euro area in 2025 (Eurostat).
| Option | Internal time per month | Cost per month |
|---|---|---|
| In-house | 10.5 h | €402 |
| Agency | Type a quote | |
| With EducPilotEssentiel plan | 4 h | €169 |
Amounts before tax. The agency row only counts its quote: add your team’s briefing and review time.
How the estimate works
In one sentence: in-house, cost is production time per finished minute times the hourly cost; with an agency, it is your quote; with EducPilot, it is the plan that covers your minutes, plus your team’s review time.
| Option | Calculation |
|---|---|
| In-house | video minutes × hours per finished minute × hourly cost |
| Agency | video minutes × quoted price per minute |
| EducPilot | price before tax of the smallest plan covering your minutes (or the largest plus top-ups) + review hours × hourly cost |
All amounts are before tax, the way a company compares costs.
The assumptions, and where they come from
- In-house production time. A widely cited study by Chapman Alliance across 249 organisations measured on average 79 hours of work per finished hour for basic e-learning (content and quizzes) and 490 hours for advanced, highly animated e-learning. Per minute, that is about 1.3 hours and 8.2 hours per finished minute. It is an order of magnitude, not a measure of your team: the study dates from 2010 and covers e-learning in general.
- Hourly cost. By default, the average hourly labour cost in the euro area in 2025, €38.2 according to Eurostat (whole economy, companies with 10 or more employees). Replace it with the real cost of the people involved.
- Agency price. No default: quotes vary too much with style, length and rounds of changes. Type the one you received, and add your team’s briefing and review time.
- Review time with EducPilot. One hour per video by default, to adjust: the expert’s time to check the plan, the storyboard and the video, and pin notes.
- EducPilot price. The plans as of 5 October 2026, before tax: Essentiel €16.67 for 30 minutes, Pro €69 for 130 minutes, Business €179 for 400 minutes, 100-minute top-ups at €79. Prices incl. VAT are on the pricing page.
How to read the result
- Compare comparable videos. A two-minute drawn explainer is not a film shot with actors: pick “Simple” or “Animated” for what you would really do in-house.
- Look at the time column. The hidden cost of an in-house video is often the subject-matter expert’s time. That same expert reviews an agency’s video or a generated one.
- Think in years. A procedure that changes every six months is remade twice a year: the cost of an update matters as much as the first version.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a two-minute training video cost?
Mostly it depends on how it is made. With the estimator’s defaults (1.3 hours per finished minute at €38.2 an hour), a simple two-minute video made in-house is about 2.6 hours of work, roughly €101 before tax. With EducPilot, up to fifteen two-minute videos a month fit in the Essentiel plan (€16.67 before tax), plus review time.
Are these figures reliable?
They are sourced assumptions, shown so you can replace them with yours. The Chapman study is old and covers e-learning in general; your own measurement on a recent video beats any benchmark.
Is what I type stored?
No. The calculation runs in your browser; nothing is sent or stored.
